Child Of Nuin

Hello internet,

I am really looking forward to starting my cosplay journey. Without a word of a lie it is the most exciting thing that is happening in my life right now. As such, I have a little announcement at the end of this blog, but for now on to the main content.

So this is my list of cosplays that I desperately want to do. I am, predictably, starting with the easiest to do and working up to the hardest, since I am possibly the least experienced female seamstress in my family at the moment (discounting my 5 year old and 6 month old cousins). Despite this being the case, I will be putting these cosplays in random order, as I think of them, because let’s face it, my mind is on food at the moment and needs to be on a role before it brings out my mental lists.

Katniss Everdeen – The Hunger Games
So, my current project (kinda) is Katniss Everdeen. Due to a few minor difficulties, this cosplay is on hold for the moment.

I’m going for the training suit because, like I said, I’m doing the easiest first, and the training shirt can be bought at Toys R Us, therefore cutting out the work. Unfortunately I couldn’t get one on my recent trip to Melbourne, but hopefully the next time I head into a big city I’ll be able to get one. If not, there’s always Amazon. I would like to do Katniss in her hunting gear eventually, but that is a way off yet.

Ishizu Ishtar – Yu-Gi-Oh
As soon as I decided that I wanted to cosplay, the character I felt drawn to doing was Ishizu Ishtar, from the original Yu-Gi-Oh series.

This, I think, is going to be my second cosplay project? I’m not entirely sure yet, since I have to get and edit a pattern and stuff. The only thing I’m concerned about is how much gold this woman wears. I’m not sure how to go about doing her head-dress or anything else. I’m going to have to work on that.

Itachi/Deidara – Naruto
I love these two characters so much that it’s not even funny. Out of all the Akatsuki, I would really like to cosplay Hidan, but with my boobs and his tendency to walk around mostly shirtless, I’m going to have to pass up on that one.

A member of the Akatsuki is a rather common cosplay, and as such there are lots of tutorials and information all over the internet detailing exactly how to make a cloak, what kind of material is best, and a whole bunch of other things. As such, I think one of these characters is going to be very high on my list for cosplaying, simply because of the amount of information available.

As a novice, I kinda need that.

Izumi Curtis – Fullmetal Alchemist
Izumi Curtis is one of my favorite characters from FMA, both in the manga and the anime. With this particular cosplay a wig would be necessary, since I really don’t want to put my hair in dreadlocks for a weekend.

Izumi’s general outfit is really an easy one to do once you have the right pattern. Or I assume it would be. I don’t sew yet, so I have no idea. It looks pretty easy though, right?

If it is it will probably be second on my list, since I really do want to have an easy-to-get-perfect cosplay by March. I know that sounds like a long way away, but trust me, it’s not all that long if you procrastinate the way I do.

I have no real reservations for this cosplay. Thinking about it, this might be easier to do than Ishizu, however my cosplay partner is very much in love with the Yu-Gi-Oh: The Abridged Series, and has his heart set on Marik, so…

Yeah, more on that later…

Victorique – Gosick
Now this is a cosplay that I am going to work up to eventually. This is one of my overall goals. Victorique is a decisive, easily bored young girl who has the most amazingly cute outfit I have ever seen.

Isn’t she the cutest thing you’ve ever seen??

The main concern that I have for this cosplay is that finding and modifying a pattern for the dress is going to be hell. I don’t even know where to start. I contemplated buying the dress on eBay, but the one I found had all the wrong colors. So it’s going to have to be a hand-made adventure. I’m super excited for this one.

I thought that finding a wig for this one would be difficult, but I have been directed to a couple of very good eBay stores that specialize in extra long wigs, and even in heat-resistant ones. So you can curl them if you want to. Best store ever, am I right? The only worry I have is about styling the fringe. I’ll have to practice on another wig before hand.

Organization XIII – Kingdom Hearts
I think I would be happy doing pretty much anyone from Organization XIII, but really I would like to do Vexen or Demyx… maybe even Xigbar…

The problem with Organization XIII is the cloaks.

Making anything out of leather is difficult, let alone an entire cloak with flowing sleeves and a hood. I am hoping that I wont have to make the cloak itself, but if I do it’s going to be a long time coming, if my current sewing skills are anything to go by.

And finally…

Yamada Shintarou – Kanpai!
Shintarou was one of the first people I ever cosplayed as, and I’m ashamed to say that it sucked sooooo badly. However, it was a very fun con and my friends and I had a hoot, so it wasn’t all bad.

This cosplay in particular I am determined to get right. The hardest part I found when I did this was actually styling the wig. I’m pretty useless at it, so this time I’m hoping to do it properly.

So that’s all for the cosplay section. Finally going to have this post up, after about a week of writing it and finding all the pictures.

Now, onto the big announcement!

My friend and I have decided that we are going to start a cosplay group based out of our closest city. At the moment it’s just the two of us, but we are optimistic and ready to start cosplaying as soon as possible. Most likely, we will be doing Yu-Gi-Oh or Hunger Games cosplays first. We are meeting soon to discuss it.

We were meant to meet up over the weekend and do it, but shit happened and then more stuff and it just wasn’t convenient.

Maybe by time we actually get around to doing anything about it I will have my new Yu-Gi-Oh deck that I ordered. Original Joey Wheeler 1996 factory sealed. And hoping to get back some of the cards from my old deck that I stupidly let my mother give away to the local market. Here’s hoping they’re still there.

Well, now that that’s out of the way, that will be all for this blog post. It’s taken way too friggin long to get this up. About a week.

Seriously, a week.

Anyway, I will be updating to let everyone (including my dA watchers) know when the introduction video etc is going to be up.
